2 Entry Pathways
Domestic applicants completing an undergraduate degree outside New Zealand are not eligibble to apply directly for the MBChB programme at the Underisty of the Auckland. Applicants are required to either:
- Apply under the First year category - complete the first year of the BHSc or BSc Biomedical Science at The University of Auckland.
- Apply as a Graduate applicant - complete an undergraduate or a post-graduate qualificatioin at any New Zealand Unviersity.

Category 1 - First year entry from the Biomedical science (BSc) or Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc)
- School leavers cannot directly apply into thee MBChB, they are advised to apply via FIrst Year Entry
- 8 pre-requisite courses are required and must be completed on a full-time basis in the year of application for MBChB
- Only the first attempt for these courses will be considereed for MBChB admission in the First Year category

Recommended subjects -
BHSc - Applicants need to have takaen at least one Science subject. For potential applicants to medicine completion of both biology and chemistry at a year 13 level is strongly recommended.

BSc - No science subject requirements. Applicants are encouraged to take biology, chemistry and physics. At least one English rich subject is also recommended.


UCAT: Required for both medicine and dentistry at University of Auckland. There is no set cut-off for UCAT for admission. The UCAT ANZ scores will determine a ranked list for interview. The level of achievement the university requires will vary each year, determined by the performance of all applicants competing for a place in the Medicine course and will not be disclosed.
Medical Interview University of Auckland:
For medicine -
You will need to achieve a minimum GPA of 6.0 across all eight first year courses, with no fails, to be eligible for consideration for an admission interview. If eligible, you will be ranked for interview invitation. If your final grades are not available at the time of interview ranking, an interim (highest possible) will be temporarily assigned. Official final results will be used for the final selection. Interviews are conducted as a Multi-Station Mini Interview (MMI). You will be asked a series of questions in relation to a scenario at each of the eight interview stations and you will have eight minutes to respond. Interviewed applicant's final ranking is based on a weighting of the following components: GPA for four core courses (60%), UCAT ANZ Final Score (15%), Multi-mini interview (25%).

Category 2 - Graduate Entry
Domestic applicants
To apply for the MBChB under the Graduate entry category, domestic graduates must have successfully completed, normally in the minimum academic time and no more than five years prior to the date of application, a degree, postgraduate degree or postgraduate diploma from a New Zealand university with a minimum Grade Point Average of 6.0 (B+) or equivalent.

Depending on your previous study, you may need to undertake some or all of the First Year courses before commencing Part II. If you are required to take Part I courses, you must pass all these courses within one year in order to proceed to Part II. This will be assessed as part of your application for admission.

Citizens and permanent residents of Australia and applicants from the Cook Islands, Tokelau or Niue who are New Zealand citizens, are eligible for enrolment on the same basis as New Zealand applicants.

International applicants
To apply for the MBChB under the Graduate entry category, international applicants need to have completed a relevant degree on a full time basis at a recognised university. Your last year of full time study must be no more than five years prior to the year of application. Shortlisted international graduate applicants will be interviewed over Skype/phone. International Graduate applicants are not required to sit UCAT ANZ.

Interview Eligibility
In order to be eligible for consideration for an admission interview (MMI – Multi Mini Interviews), domestic applicants will need to complete, normally in the minimum academic time and no more than five years prior to the date of application, a degree, postgraduate degree or postgraduate diploma from a New Zealand university with a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 6.0 (B+) or equivalent.

Interview Ranking
If eligible you will be ranked for interview invitations. This ranking will be based on the cumulative GPA from your qualifying programme. If your final grades are not available at the time of interview ranking, an interim grade (highest possible grade) will be temporarily assigned. Official final results will be used for the final selection.

Final Selection (Offer) Ranking
Applicants will be ranked for final offer selection based on a weighting of the following components:

- Cumulative GPA from your qualifying programme: 60%
- UCAT ANZ Final Score: 15%
- Multi Mini Interview: 25%

University of Auckland medicine interview dates: All General MMIs in 2023 will be held online. The MMI dates for 2023 are 28 August – 8 September 2023. Applicants who are unable to participate in their scheduled interview(s) will not be considered further. Plase check University of Auckland
